QBEpic Open Thread: Day One

Hello everyone. We will be using this thread to keep you updated on what is happening during the QBEpic this weekend. Today the quarterbacks will be taking their Axon assessments, working on film study with Trent Dilfer and then training in the sand, George Whitfield style.

We will be posting videos that you can train to on Instagram and will be updating all of the action, here at QBCentric.

While Coach Dilfer was delivering his opening talk about the vision of QBEpic, former NFL Quarterback and CEO of Axon Sports, Joe Germaine, was beginning to train small groups of quarterbacks on defense recognition using Axon’s testing system.

After an hour of walking the quarterbacks through his six theories of mechanical success and failure, Coach Dilfer drove the message home these words. If you are a young QB and you are not here, you missed one of the best times that I have ever heard Trent deliver this talk. In fact, it is the first time I have heard him break down every nuance in one session.

Day one has been eye opening for many here and these young men and they took what they were taught on the chalkboard and began putting it into action in the sand

But for all the fun they are having and all that they are learning, there is a voice missing. George Whitfield, the inventor of the beach training has been ill and was unable to attend this weekend. But, these coaches are a brotherhood and they wanted to send George a message. Get well brother!

A shout out to Coach @georgewhitfieldjr #WishYouWereHere #GetWell Your sand workouts are transforming young men. They are getting after it! #grit #determination A video posted by QBCentric (@qbcentric) on

The night ended with a quarterback showdown where every throw counted. If you threw a dime, an eye level pass, you received two points. If the ball was below the head and above the chest, you received one point. After two elimination rounds, James Shanley, class of 2017 from Georgia, earned a nickname from Coach Dilfer, JUGGS Machine, as he threw 10 consecutive dimes to win the contest.
